Horray!
We look forward to a well-deserved break.
A few interesting things have happened in the past few days. ¿Luna llena (full moon) perhaps?
Yesterday, I was in a meeting at work when I felt a massive jolt, as if a car had just crashed into our building. I was half expecting our glass windows to break because of the force of what seemed like an explosion.
Everyone went into the street and looked around and there was nothing to be found.
Throughout the day, we kept feeling smaller shakes of the ground and still, we weren't quite sure what the heck it was. We were wondering if it was really an earthquake or something else...
At night, I was heading to bed and I heard a knock at my door.
Kate, the videographer who is here joining us for a few weeks to make SVH videos, was at my door, blanket in hand. Her host mom had made her get out of their plasterized house because "it wasn't safe". She had heard on the radio, supposedly, that there was another bigger explosion that was to happen anytime between 11 PM and 12 AM.
I got to the plaza and talked to the police. Many rumors were going around about potential seismic activity etc....but I wondered how could one predict this so far in advance?
There was another story circulating that talked about underground tunnels being built and dynamite exploding underground close to Ollantaytambo, but that late at night? Not quite sure.
We decided that Ollantaytambo may be a bit dramatic and that moment and we went to the local hippy bar to celebrate what may have been an apocolyptic moment in Ollanta.
We had a great impromptu party and....nothing actually happened, thankfully. It was a great excuse to get together with friends and we had a great time for the 1 1/2 hours we were up.
Adam and I are looking at options for our vacation time and are really looking forward to it. We are contemplating a juice fast/cleanse in the upcoming 5 days and perhaps a cheap flight somewhere. We were originally hoping to go to Antarctica, but the cheaper cabins sold out way before we even saw there was a sale happening.

Last Friday, I was really proud of our nutrition training for our health promoters. Sarah and I taught a lesson focusing on types of malnutrition, the most important micronutrients for kids, and what a balanced diet looks like (using local, accessible foods) depending on how much activity one does.
We worked really hard to make it really interactive with lots of posters, found some sticky tak miraculously, and I feel as if I am getting more comfortable in my primary teaching role.
Here are some pictures from that training this past Friday:
