Time for Personal Reflection

I do miss Adam and things are slow.  I hear he's doing well, eating all the foods, going to all the shows, and taking very warm showers. Oh, America.

Many stores are closed here in Ollantaytambo before the tourist season starts again because people want some vacation time, which is understandable. Luckily, they should be opening for next week! I'm excited to visit all the cafes again in Ollantaytambo.

I did go to this website to help myself craft a personal mission statement for life, since I am lacking a bit of clear focus lately.

The quiz said I work to impact individuals because I want feel their best and I like to achieve impact through helping to create peoples' environments and experiences.

Interesting.

This weekend I am enjoying some time in Cusco after visit Friday to Kausay Wasi for the first time since being there in late 2012 on my last visit to Peru. They are a wonderful clinic that is well-equipped and never turns anyone away for lack of funds. They also have visiting surgical campaigns almost every month!

A nice note that Sarah left in support of these interesting times in my life.

I went with the ladies to interview a medicinal plants expert in Ollantaytambo and it's no surprise that he had a big vat of herbal digestive liquor on standby.

Happy Love Day/Adam's Despedida

Last night, we had a welcome party for our two new nurse community coordinators, Mary and Jenny Beth. We also had  SVH office night of love complete with Cards Against Humanity.

Darragh made us all Valentines, which were funny because they were all activist Valentines cards. One said..."I just found out that our shirts were made in unfair working conditions. Let's take them off." Lots of laughs last night.

Last night, we also had Adam's despedida, or "going away", for a while at Ganzos. A bunch of people came to celebrate Laura's 30th birthday and Adam's goodbye for a while.

Enjoy the photos!

Preparation for a trip to 'Merica and more!

Adam is busy getting ready for his month-long expedition to America starting this upcoming weekend after almost 5 months here in Ollantaytambo. He will also be going to Expo West in California while he's home, the country's largest natural food expo, to represent his products. Please help support him with the reverse culture shock and buy him a few delicious beers.

I decided against going right now because the weather is just so darn good here that I can't bring myself to head to the sub-zero temperatures of Chicago (kidding!) Just in case interviews come to pass, I am saving my vacation time for that and for perhaps going back in May (weddings, birthday, Summercamp, etc...) I recently applied for a few fellowships: One in India and another in Rwanda or Uganda.

It's strangely freeing and simultaneously a little intimidating to have my life so up in the air right now, but I should find out a lot more soon and I trust that everything will work out as it needs to.

Additionally, I started my own Reiki studio in Ollantaytambo called Pachamama Reiki! I plan on getting attuned to Reiki 3/Master Level this April in Peru. Lucy, one of my friends and coworkers, so kindly made a sign for me for outside of our little house on Lari Calle.

I am also selling many natural pomades/salves and tinctures I am making from plants in this area. I learned how to make them from a medicinal plants expert in the area a few weeks ago.

Since it's rainy season, there are so many amazing plants growing! I am happy to take requests for pomades/tinctures to bring back to the states.

So far, I have made pomades/salves of:

*Eucalyptus (like a homemade Vicks Vaporub)
*Molle (Antimicrobial/Antioxidant properties)
*Muña (Andean mint good for sore muscles)
*Ch'iri ch'iri (Anti-inflammatory properties, good for bruises)
*Chamomile (Helps one to relax and feel more balanced/tranquil)

Tinctures so far have included:

*Cedroncillo (antidepressant, anxiolytic, clarifying, helps with digestion, menstrual cramps)
*Muña (Andean mint great for stomach issues, aphrodisiac)
*Hierba buena (Regular mint, clarifying, helps with digestion)

Pomades can be made quickly, but the tinctures take a month to fully mature.

I hope to add natural detergent, shampoo, conditioner lotion, and face wash to my repertoire soon as well as utilize ingredients like Palo Santo, Huachuma, and other sacred plants.

There's not much on my page yet, but feel free to "Like" me on Facebook to stay updated on the progress of my shop:

It's February Already?!

Hi all! We're almost at 3,000 blog views and we are so happy you continue to tune in to see how we're doing.

Rainy season has finally commenced here and it rains quite often. Brooke will not have any more trainings through the month of February because of the dangerous roads.

Adam has been enjoying some outdoor activities and went mountain biking recently.

Adam is planning to come back to America in a few weeks and will return to Peru for a bit in March.
